Charles "Mike" Michael Cleveland


Mike Cleveland, 76, of Gore, Virginia passed away Friday, August 30, 2019, at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Mr. Cleveland was born in 1943 in East Orange, New Jersey, son of the late Charles and Jane Cleveland. He attended Elon University in Elon, South Carolina.
Mr. Cleveland was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam conflict flying helicopters, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.
For his military service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Aviator Badge, The Air Medal, and awarded two Army Overseas Service Bars.

Most of his life was lived in the Northern Virginia area. Upon leaving Virginia he relocated to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he retired as a Security Guard.

Being the adventuresome person he was……he enjoyed boating, cruises, fishing, water skiing, and riding his motorcycle. He was a very creative and competitive person. Mr. Cleveland was always looking to invent new “things” and modify “things” in existence. He could create a solution for anything. When he was younger he loved playing sports. Mr. Cleveland loved playing games and would usually beat everyone. He always wanted to put a smile on everyone’s face with his jokes and story-telling. Mr. Cleveland had his own political views and was a very strong Republican.
Above all else, his greatest passion was his children, family and friends. He loved spending time with all of them and was always willing to help anyone.

Surviving are his children, Susan Piotrowski (Mark) of Franklinville, North Carolina; Dawn Gouldman (John) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Tim Cleveland of Gore, Virginia; and Janey Swerda (Mike) of Suffolk, Virginia; grandchildren, T.J., Austin, and Courtney Cleveland of Gore, Virginia; Zachary and Sydney Gouldman of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Kyleigh, Chloe, and Madison Swerda of Suffolk, Virginia; and Katie Springs of Cramerton, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Kacy; sister, Linda Rae Sinnette (Jack) of Old Town, Florida; and brother, James William Cleveland (Loretta) of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
