Gerry
Gerry and I enlisted together in the Warrent Officer
Flight Program. During the six months we were processing (Delayed Entry)
we became good friends and went hunting together. We hung around together.
I was disqualified from flight school and went into the artillery. Gerry
and I corresponded with one another. I was sent to Vietnam and had completed
my tour in September 1969. Gerry wrote me from Vietnam. In January 1969,
I learned of his death when I saw his picture in the paper, with a note
that he was being buried the next day. Gerry was very outgoing. He was
doing what he wanted to do, and he had everything to live for. Everytime
I go to the wall I stop by his name and say a prayer. It took me 15 years
before I could visit his grave in Arllington Cemetery. He was a great friend,
and one who will always be in my thoughts.
