The Vietnam War
By Magan Butler, Copyright 1999
Bullets flying,
People dying,
That's what it is like in war.
Families crying,
Politicians lying about
There will be no more.
Helicopters diving,
People striving,
Everyone trying to survive.
Rockets bursting,
People cursing,
Try to keep your buddy alive.
Your time is done,
Home you come,
You know you gave it your all.
Who is to blame?
For the shame,
Of 58,000 names on the Wall.
By Magan Butler, age 10
Note:
My daughter Magan's class was given an assignment of writing a poem about a war that someone in their family had taken part in. Magan, who is 10 years old, was the only one to pick the Vietnam Conflict.
She has always been interested in the war and my participation in it.
Whenever she hears me talking about it to someone she finds a place where
she can listen without being seen. I am definitely a proud papa.
