The Huey was recovered by the artist, Vietnam era vet
Steve Maloney, from a helicopter junk pile.
Old #67 -17174 has been restored as a piece of multimedia
art.
Maloney is traveling the country setting the Huey up
for his "Take me Home Huey" display.
It was here in Dearborn Michigan on the lawn of the Henry
Ford Museum on the Fourth of July.
It is especially poignant that this was a med-evac
Helicopter shot down on February 14, 1969.
Two crewmember's SP.4 Gary L. Dubach and SP 4 Stephen L.
Schumacher were killed in the subsequent crash.
The remaining crew has been located and reunited by the
Steve's team.
Inspired by the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam war and
the men and women who lost their lives fighting it, "Take Me
Home Huey" is dedicated to the 2,709,918 Americans who
served in Vietnam.
It is intended to promote healing and bring awareness to
PTSD.
Coincidentally, the project is funded by Lighthorse Legacy
Inc. a 501(c)3 organization. (No connection with our Light
Horse activities.)
Further information about the project and where it is
scheduled to land can be found at Steve's website, www.takemehomehuey.org
