This
was the dinner we never got. My memories are faded, but I believe we
ran into some deep shit that day, and didn't get back until late. I
know it sounds messed up, but maybe you could confirm this with Hugh
Mills.
I believe he has done the research ,or remembers much better then I do.
I
remember we were based out of north Phu Bai at that time.
I also remember we were told the messhall would hold
dinner for us. And I remember we didn't get back until late, as in REAL
late, it was well into night.
I know we ran into some shit, but have zero memory of what
happened that day (25, Dec. 1971).
When we finaly got back to our hooch, we all had these little red cloth
bags hanging on our doors. It was a xmas gift from the red cross.
Inside were 5 pieces of hardtact candy, a short yellow pencil with no
eraser, the xmas card from division, a few sheets of writing paper, and
I think that was it.
So,,,all of us scouts pooled our food stash together and made our own
xmas dinner. Most of which consisted of canned bread, some different
kinds of jam, homemade cookies, and I think the rest were C's.
It was good too.
