checks in.
I served with D 3/5 from May or June 1971 to
February 1972.
I was a scout crewchief /observer. My aircraft was
an OH-6A, SN# 962.
I’m pretty sure that the unit moved to Phu Bai at
the time noted as having moved to Camp Evans, but I can’t be sure. More
research is in order. I seem to remember that we arrived at North Phu Bai
just before Christmas 1971. I think we had moved to Camp Evans around October
that year.
When I first got into D 3/5 in May or June
’71 we were all still wearing 9th Infantry Division “Cookie” patches.
When we moved to Camp Evans we all had to wear the
101st patches.
All of my orders however came from Hqtrs.,101st at
Camp Eagle.
In June or July of 1971 we started exchanging our
OH-58s for OH-6s. Some of these aircraft came from “Light Horse”. My aircraft
was 962 and my alternate ship was 935. Do you remember old “Susie Q”? We
got her too.
To say we have a confusing past is an understatement.
Perhaps in our lifetimes we will be able to unravel our history. I’m looking
forward to the day when all of us will be together on one site.
