SUBJECT: Unit After Action Report

    Delta Troop (Air) was OPCON to 3rd Brigade for operations west and north
west of My Phuoc Tay. The Command and Control aircrart. reported to FSB Moore for a briefing by the 3rd Brigade Commander.
    A "People Sniffer" mission was conducted in the northern AO, north vest of My Phuoc Tay. The LST observed two (2) VC with weapons at XS 115620. The VC attempted to evade the LST as they investigated the VC .The VC were taken under fire resulting in one ( 1) VC KBA (BC) .The VC were dressed in green shorts and black shirts. The "People Sniffer" mission continued throughout the AO. In the vicinity of XS 147 567 consistent maximum readings were obtained .. CS gas was dropped in the area with negative results. One ( 1) I .detainee was apprehended in the area, but all of his papers and identification card seemed to be in order and he was released .
    Delta. Troop (Air) was then called to the area or first contact where elements of the 3rd Brigade were in contact. Delta. Troop was assigned a screening mission around the area of contact. LFT ' s supported the ground elementswith numerous strikes in the areas or contact. The ground elements were taking neavy casualties and one Delta Troop slick aircrart volunteered to medevac the personnel. As the slick was taking off with the injured personnel it was shot down. The aircraft crashed near the treeline which contained bunkered VC. The slick was shot down vicinity XS 105 622. The Command and Control aircraft
attempted to land and recover the occupants of the downed aircraft. As the C&C aircraft was on short final fire was received from both the north and south. The landing was aborted and due to the hits taken jn the aircraft, the C&C was forced to land, XS 105 625. The crew from the C&C was picked up by another Delta Troop slick after it was determined that the C&C was not flyable. The crew from the downed slick had one pilot injured from gunshot wounds but they were able to get both the crew and the medevaced personnel to a secure area where they could be extracted. At 1705 hours the C&C aircraft was extracted by Chinook, the Slick aircraft remained in the area.
    Summary: One (1) VC KBA (BC), two (2) aircraft shot down, and one (1) pilot injured.
