I have some pictures and other information regarding Charleyhorse from my short time with them.  Will you be at the VHPA reunion>  If so look me up.  Several former members of the gun platoon will be there,  including Mack Cocherell, Bob Smith, Bob Ramsey, Steve Wing, and the parents of Lou Breuer.

Best Regards,

Memory of Cpt Martin Wayne Gronborg, Jr and Crew

My wife's oldest brother was attached to the D/3/5 CAV in 12/1970 until
9/1971 and flew an OH-6A tail 66-07781. He and his crew took an RPG in the
cockpit on Sept. 4th 1971.  All were killed.  My wife really never had a
chance to know her brother as an adult.  Now that we are in our 50's, I have
finally gotten around to doing the research, which is way over due.  Did
anyone know one or all of the crew members who were killed?  According to
the records, along with Marty, there was PFC Bernard Guy Dillenseger and I
believe SP4 James Paul Pettiegrew.  I would like to try and arrange a
reunion among any who knew Marty, so my wife can learn what his personality
was while over in Nam.  By the way, I served in Vietnam in the Air Force
'70-'71 at Ton-Seh-Knut briefing the "Nightshadows" and Phu-Kat, debriefing
F-4 pilots.
If anyone has information, please contact me at charlietucei@direcway.com
Thanks

I served in D 3/5 Cav during 1971-72.  My memory is short but I remember Quang Tri and Camp Evans.  When are we gonna have a reunion?  I remember Sgt Belcher, SP/4 Nixon, and CPT Laird.  Trying to recall more names. I can't even remember the CO's or Tops names.  I was a SP/5 and worked in maintenance and later in supply.  I went from Vietnam to Ft. Rucker, AL in '72.  From there to 70th Div Reserves in Michigan and then to the 156th Signal Bn of the Michigan National Guard.  I let someone talk me into going to OCS.....enough said....

When I joined Charlie Horse in Camp Evans in October 1971, we were D 3/5 of the 101st, attached to 9th Infantry.   We used the name Charlie Horse.  Major Seery was Charlie 6.  The XO was Cunningham.  One nite Seery got separated from the others in an aerial fire fight.  I heard his radio pleas for contact by any other Charlie call sign in the area as his OH-6 wandered around.  He rarely flew.
I knew nothing of unit switches or any other names.

Charliehorse ARP Carl Fosco
I served with C/3/17 and with D/3/5 when we changed while in Quang Tri.  Took part in Laotian invasion.  I was with the troop from September 1970-Feb 1971.  I used to drink Coffee with MSG Ott in front of his hooch.  My call sign was 26Papa2. I was the medic with the air rifle platoon. (ARPS)
When we changed to d/3/5 we put on 9th patches.  We were originally part of the lst Aviation brigade and wore that patch.  When the unit came to Quang Tri it came under the 212th Combat Aviation Bn headquartered in Danang.  The 212th was a lst Aviation unit.  I was a 212th medic and was sent to c/3/17 in September 1971.
In December we became D/3/5 or maybe it was Jan 1971.
Ther were no 9th units in I Corps that I know of.  We supported the 1st brigade 5th Mechanized Infantry, the 11th Infantry Brigade and ARVN units.  I left near the end of Feb. 1971 as I had been in country  fourteen months.

I joined Army Reserve in 1975.  I retired in 2002 as a Command Sgt Major.
I recently retired as a history techer.

My name is Bill Alf.  I was the Charley Horse ARP platoon leader from Dec 70 thru Sept 71.

SSG Sprague was the plt sgt, SSG Netterville was one of the squad leaders.
Kinzey was wounded in the leg by grenade fragments when we were working in a bunker complex south of QL 9.
